Pinnacles National Park

See the eroded remains of an extinct volcano.

Some 23 million years ago, multiple volcanoes erupted, flowed, and slid to form what would eventually become Pinnacles National Park. This region features a unique and stunning landscape. Pinnacles is a rock climber's dream. You are also welcome to journey through chaparral, oak woodlands, and canyon bottoms. Hikers can enter rare talus caves and emerge to towering rock spires teeming with birds of prey such as prairie and peregrine falcons, golden eagles, and California condors.

Pinnacles National Park protects a mountainous area located east of the Salinas Valley in Central California. It is about 5-miles east of Soledad and 80-miles southeast of San Jose. Weather conditions in the summer vary, but often this park reaches temperatures over 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Please bring plenty of water with you and wear sunscreen and sturdy hiking shoes.

If you bring pets along for the ride, please note that they are only allowed in the campgrounds, paved roads, and parking lots. They must remain leashed and are not allowed on the dirt trails.
